This is a work in progress, so please bear with us as we continue to add more content and functions to the site. Tennessee County Commissioners Association News

Acording to a recent Governing magazing article, most U.S. counties are rural, and recent Census estimates indicate the majority of them are losing population as Americans migrate to cities and suburbs. Two-thirds of counties that the Census considers majority-rural based on population density lost residents last year. By contrast, only 31 percent of more urban counties registered population declines.

CTAS and MTAS recently joint sponsored a class on the impact of the Affordable Care Act on Local Government. This sweeping legislation has an effect on all local governments as employers. This seminar was offered recently to bring local officials and administrators up to speed on how their city or county would be affected. The Affordable Care Act webcast is now available to view at your convenience.

The Tennessee Department of Education has pledged nearly $4 million in Race to the Top funds to pay for eight leadership development programs, which will impact future school leaders in more than 20 districts across the state.
